The Science of Energy and Connection

Community Connection raises our immune system by over 50%! Why is that? We are created to share, connect, and interact. Seriously- right down to our atoms!

How Your Energy Affects Others

Have you ever walked into a room and felt calm or, on the other hand, noticed tension before you even looked around to notice anything with the usual five senses? There is something to the energy we all give off and pick up from each other. Science can explain this, and knowing how it works can help you understand how you affect and are affected by others.

Everything Is Energy

At the smallest level, everything in the world—including you—is made of energy. Even though we see objects as solid, everything is made of tiny particles called atoms. These atoms never truly “touch” each other in the way we imagine. Instead, they interact through invisible energy forces.

Salt: A Simple Example of Energetic Interaction

A great example of how energy shapes the world around us is table salt (NaCl). Salt is made up of two elements—sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl). Sodium gives up an electron to chlorine, creating positively and negatively charged ions. These opposites attract, forming a stable compound through energetic forces, not physical connection. Even though salt feels solid, what holds it together is actually an invisible electromagnetic interaction between these charged particles. This principle applies to all matter, including our bodies and emotions, showing how energy is constantly at play in ways we don’t always see.

This is an atom, the basic building block of all matter. Atoms are made of three main parts:
  • Nucleus: The dense center of the atom, made up of protons (positively charged particles) and neutrons (particles with no charge).

  • Electrons: Tiny, negatively charged particles that move in a cloud around the nucleus.

Even though the atom looks solid in this diagram, the electrons don’t follow fixed paths like planets orbiting the sun. Instead, they exist in a “cloud” of energy around the nucleus. This means most of an atom is actually empty space, and the different parts interact through invisible forces. The forces between protons, neutrons, and electrons are what hold the atom together. These same forces are behind how atoms combine to form everything around us, from water to salt to your own body!

Percentage of an Atom That Is Physical:

An atom is mostly empty space. In fact, about 99.9999% of an atom's volume is empty space. The dense, physical part of an atom is the nucleus, which contains protons and neutrons. The rest of the atom is made up of electrons that orbit around the nucleus at a great distance, meaning most of the atom is just empty space. So, in terms of physical matter, only a tiny fraction—about 0.0001%—is made up of actual particles (protons, neutrons, and electrons).

How Much Information Can Be Stored Inside a Drop of Water?

This is a fascinating question that taps into some advanced concepts in physics and information theory.

In theory, the amount of information that can be stored in a drop of water is huge. If you look at the molecular level, one drop of water contains around 10²¹ molecules of H₂O. Each molecule has information in the form of quantum states that could potentially be used to store data.

Some estimates, based on research in quantum computing and information theory, suggest that the amount of information that can be stored in a single drop of water could be around 10¹⁹ bits (a bit being a basic unit of information). This is an enormous amount, considering that the amount of data in the entire world is estimated to be around 10²² bits.

While this concept is still theoretical and hasn’t been fully realized in practice, it gives us a sense of just how much potential information exists at the molecular and quantum levels, even in something as simple as water.

Water: Another Example of Energetic Interaction

Another everyday example is water (H₂O). Water is formed when two hydrogen (H) atoms bond with one oxygen (O) atom. This happens through electromagnetic attraction, as oxygen pulls hydrogen’s electrons closer, creating a stable molecule. Just like in salt, these atoms don’t “touch” in the way we might think—they bond through energetic forces. Water is essential for life, and its unique properties, like the ability to store and transfer energy, further illustrate how energetic interactions shape our world.

Have You Taken on Other People’s Emotions and Trauma?

Can You Take on Other People’s Emotions?

Because we’re always interacting energetically, it’s possible to pick up other people’s emotions without realizing it. If you suddenly feel anxious, sad, or overwhelmed, it might not be your own emotions—it could be from someone else. This is especially true for people who had tough childhoods and learned to take on others’ emotions as a way to survive.

You can even carry emotions passed down through your family. These can affect your relationships, health, and energy, even if they didn’t start with you.

Why You Feel Drained or Uplifted Around Certain People

Have you ever felt better after spending time with someone, or drained after being around another? This isn’t just emotional—it’s energetic. When we’re near someone, our bodies sense their energy and adjust. This is why we feel calm around someone peaceful, and unsettled around someone anxious.

Did you know you can measure your energy field?

Your Body’s Energy Field

Your body creates its own energy field, mostly through your heart and brain. You can even measure the electricity from your heart from a few feet away! This is why we can often feel someone’s mood before they speak—our energy fields interact with each other, whether we realize it or not.

This energy process is called bioelectromagnetism. It means your body uses and creates energy. Machines can measure this energy, but we feel it in everyday life.

Measuring and Releasing Emotional Energy

Thanks to new technology, we can track how emotions affect our bodies. Tools like smartwatches and the Oura Ring measure heart rate and emotional balance. When we’re emotionally balanced, our heart rate is smooth and steady. When we’re carrying stress, it’s erratic.

By using tools and practices, we can restore emotional balance. This is a key part of the work I do in my coaching with Trauma-Informed Restorative Therapies.

Just as we can measure emotional coherence, we can also restore it through intentional practices- This is what I facilitate in my coaching with Trauma-Informed Restorative Therapies.

Releasing Emotional Burdens

Techniques like Root Cause Therapy, EFT, and other trauma-informed methods help us clear emotional energy stored in the body. These practices help release trapped emotions, whether from personal experiences or from others.

When we learn to listen to our bodies, we can recognize when we’re holding onto emotions that no longer serve us. Emotional healing lets us let go of the past and live more clearly, peacefully, and authentically in the present.

Why This Matters for Your Health and Relationships

Unresolved emotions don’t just affect your mind—they also affect your health, energy, and relationships. Learning to listen to your body and release stored emotions can help you:

  • Feel lighter and more emotionally free

  • Reduce stress and tension

  • Strengthen your boundaries

  • Improve your relationships by interacting from a clearer, healthier place

  • Help others feel calm and grounded through your energy

This is why I call my work Restorative:

When emotional burdens cloud our minds and bodies, they make it hard to see ourselves and others clearly. Once we release what no longer serves us, we can live authentically and build meaningful connections with others.

Imagine how the world could change if everyone did this!

That’s my goal—to help as many people as I can.
