Epigenetics and Emotional Healing: Releasing What’s Not Ours
Did you know that stress and emotions can be passed down from one generation to the next? A study at Emory University showed that mice could inherit fear from their parents. Researchers exposed the mice to a smell that made them feel scared, and these mice became afraid of that smell. But here’s the interesting part: even their babies, who never smelled the scent, were also afraid of it. This is an example of epigenetics—how our life experiences, like stress or trauma, can affect our genes and be passed down to our children and grandchildren. (BBC Article)
How Epigenetics Works in Humans
This idea is not just for mice. Studies show that trauma, like surviving a war or a natural disaster, can also affect future generations. For example, children and grandchildren of people who survived the Holocaust or the Dutch Famine have higher levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, even before they were born. Their bodies were “programmed” to react to stress, even though they never lived through the same things their ancestors did.
This means that the stress experienced by our ancestors can affect how we respond to the world today. We may not even be aware of it, but it can influence our emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.
How This Affects You
Have you ever felt anxious, fearful, or sad, and not really understood why? Sometimes, these emotions might not even be your own. They could be inherited from your ancestors. For example, you might have learned to believe that “money is dangerous” or that “something bad will always happen” because of what your ancestors went through. These beliefs and emotional patterns could be passed down through your family, even if you never directly experienced the hardships they did.
This means that you could be holding onto emotions that aren't really yours to carry. You might not even realize that these feelings and beliefs aren’t yours, but they can still affect your life today.
Releasing Inherited Stress
The great news is that we can let go of these inherited emotions and stress. Just as emotional patterns can be passed down, they can also be cleared away.
One study found that a single EFT tapping session resulted in changes to 72 gene expressions, demonstrating the profound impact EFT can have on the body’s stress regulation at a genetic level!

With RCT, we can do the same, but we cover more ground. To read more about Root Cause Therapy, click here.
RCT helps the subconsious release years and even a lifetime of emotions and the beliefs tied to them, rewiring the subconscious mind to align with your TRUE identity and potential, allowing you to experience and process your present-day reality without reliving past emotional burdens.
These psycho-somatic methods don’t just heal the mind—they also rewire your neurology, creating space for peace and clarity.
Why This Matters
Imagine those poor mice in the Emory study, unable to enjoy the beauty of cherry blossoms because their DNA was warning them of a danger that didn’t exist. Now, imagine yourself: are you carrying inherited beliefs, fears, or stress that aren’t serving you? Beliefs like “I can’t trust people” or “Something bad will always happen” may have been inherited, but they don’t have to define your life.
Healing these patterns allows us to experience what’s actually true in the present moment—and that truth is often so much better than we’ve been led to believe. Through gentle, supportive techniques like EFT and RCT, we can release inherited stress and emotions, reconnecting with a sense of peace and freedom.
The past may shape us, but it doesn’t have to define us. Isn’t it wonderful to imagine a life free from fears and beliefs that were never ours to carry?
